1. Objective
Understand the end-to-end underwriting and policy rating process for Mid-Size Business across Workers Compensation, Auto, General Liability (GL), OCPR and related lines of business, identify automation opportunities, and capture functional requirements and business rules.
2. Applications
UWD (Underwriting Desktop): assignment intake, policy details, rating instructions.
ZSpare: create/update policies, rating, imports, premium calculation.
E-File: policy documents, Accord forms, supporting documents and authoritative instructions.
3. High-Level Process
Receive assignment in UWD → Identify New Business/Renewal → Review instructions → Open E-File → Validate policy information → Create/Update policy in ZSpare → Import data (if large account) → Complete rating → Resolve validation errors → Generate premium worksheet → Complete within SLA.
4. Functional Requirements
- FR-01 Login to UWD and display assignments.
- FR-02 Display Submission ID, Product, Status, Due Date, Underwriter, UA, Rating Instructions.
- FR-03 Identify New Business (NB) and Renewal (RNL).
- FR-04 Open related documents from E-File.
- FR-05 Prioritize E-File instructions over UWD if conflicts exist.
- FR-06 Create or update policies in ZSpare.
- FR-07 Auto-populate policy information using Submission ID.
- FR-08 Support Workers Compensation, Auto and GL workflows.
- FR-09 Import large account data through EIT Excel → XML → ZSpare.
- FR-10 Support bulk vehicle import using Convert ID.
- FR-11 Validate class codes, locations, payroll, exposures and coverages.
- FR-12 Prevent invalid GL enhancement combinations.
- FR-13 Display validation errors before rating.
- FR-14 Generate final rating worksheet and premium.
- FR-15 Maintain audit trail and notes.
5. Business Rules
- SLA = 48 hours.
- Delays require justification in Notes.
- E-File instructions override UWD.
- Large accounts use Excel import instead of manual entry.
- >100 class codes treated as Large Account.
- Experience rating mandatory.
- Missing information must be clarified with Underwriter Assistant.
